Disclaimer: I was not involved in the development of cprof, and know very little about the history. This information comes from the README file and my research online trying to find cprof available in 2003. Cprof was developed by Andrew Lewycky while a co-op at Corel Corporation in 2000 (according to the copyright notices) under the GPL. It was used mostly for performance profiling of Wine but is applicable to other programs. In early 2002 Corel shut down their Open Source projects website (see this OSNews story) and cprof fell off the web. As a happy user of cprof, and someone who wanted the ease of gprof with the ability to handle multithreaded applications easily, I wanted to make cprof easily available again. |
